Recording of the recent event hosted by ArtsCatalyst at the Royal Institution of Great Britain on the 7th of February 2005

This recording is a talk given by artist and researcher Steve Kurtz, of the Critical Art Ensemble, recently arrested by the FBI and still facing charges.

The talk (co-chaired with Claire Pentecost with the Critical Art Ensemble Defense Fund) covers the events leading to the arrest, the intersection between art and bio-politics and, ultmately, captials appropriation of the genetic commons.

About two dozen people gathered on Saturday 2-12-05 at the KFC on Mission St. in Santa Cruz to protest KFC's continued failure to put a stop to abuses against chickens taking place in the factories and slaughterhouses that provide chicken to KFC. Chickens are routinely scalded alive, beaten and kicked. In addition, the chickens are kept in crowded filthy conditions and pumped full of hormones which frequently results in their inability to stand up or flap their wings.

A suprising number of prospective students told MAYDAY DC that they would not now consider the Corcoran School of Art! This hurts the Corcoran gallery of Art (owner of the school) where it hurts.
