Two Palestinians were killed by Israeli military helicopter fire in Gaza City as the Israel army maintains its attacks in both the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank. At the same time, the Israeli air bombardment of Southern Lebanon continues Thursday. Meanwhile the Israeli cabinet made it clear that air attacks on Lebanon are going to intensify.

From Beirut was written during the invasion and bombing of Lebanon by the Israeli Army in the summer of 1982. The author, Mahmoud Darwish, is a palestinian refugee who lived through this war which is not unlike todays war on Lebanon. His voice in these times is not only relevant but critical.

The Senate just passed a bill to make it a Federal offense punishable by a year in prison to assist an underage woman in crossign state lines to get an abortion in defiance of parental consent laws.

Of course, this law will be widely defied. Unlike laws regulating what a doctor can do, this is an attempt to deer people who are NOT licensed by a threat of prosecution, an dwill not be complied with.
