Indonesia pledges to work hard for IMF agreement: minister

JAKARTA, Feb 20 (AFP) -

Indonesia said it would would work hard to reach agreement with the International Monetary Fund following warnings that a continued standoff would lead to an international loss of confidence, reports said Tuesday.

Finance Minister Priyadi Praptosuharjo's comments came as senior economics minister Rizal Ramli left late Monday for Washington to hold fresh talks with the IMF.

Climate change threatens water, agriculture, public health: UN report

GENEVA, Feb 19 (AFP) -

Climate change will cause more floods and more droughts, diminish agricultural yields and worsen sanitary conditions in the 21st century, a panel of scientists working for the UN have warned.

All parts of the planet will be hit by the negative effects of global warming, according to a report published here on Monday by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

A group of 7 activists calling themselves the “Democracy Seven” stood trial on Tuesday for charges relating to a protest they were involved in last summer in the District of Columbia. The activists were arrested in on June 26th last year after they disrupted a congressional vote on a District of Columbia Appropriations bill in the U. S. house of representatives by chanting “DC Votes No! No DC!.”

The D.C. Appropriations Bill enables Congress to

control the city's budget and

includes riders that overturn locally passed

legislation.
