Miserable children in Haiti

Haitian have the highest illiteracy, mortality, and poverty rates in the Western Hemispher.

Due to a permanent poverty nation wide, life expectation in Haiti is about 47 years of age for men and 54 years of age for women. About one in every ten Haitian children is a Restavek or child who work for free in exchange for room and board, sometimes as yong as four. Education is mostly private and the cost for one child is half the annual wage of an average citizen.
