On Friday, July 16th members of the Tennessee Immigrant Refugee Rights Coalition gathered outside the Nashville Convention Senator where US Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was inside speaking to a gathering of republicans. Members of TIRRC were gathered to protest the policy of the current administration regarding the rights of minors to attend institutions of higher learning in the United States. Under current legislation, the children of displaced and migrant persons cannot attend college in the United States except as "foreign students" even if they moved here when they were two years old and attended public school their entire lives. This affects about 65,000 students every year, many of whom cannot as a result of this policy afford to go to college. Includes interviews with protest organizers and high school students threatened with deportation when they graduate.
